COMMONLY TREATED CONDITIONS

What is it? This page provides general information as well as my personal notes and treatment algorithms for commonly seen conditions in my shoulder, elbow, and upper extremity reconstruction practice. ROTATOR CUFF TEAR

The rotator cuff consists of 4 muscles (supraspinatus, subscapularis, infraspinatus, teres minor) around the shoulder that stabilize and control the fine motion of the shoulder.

The rotator cuff can be injured as a result of trauma or normal wear and tear.

SHOULDER ARTHRITIS

Shoulder arthritis is a loss of cartilage in the glenohumeral joint. This can cause pain and loss of motion of the patient. Click here for more information on treatment and surgeries for shoulder arthritis

SHOULDER INSTABILITY OR DISLOCATION
(LABRAL TEAR)

Shoulder instability can be the result of flexible ligaments, acute dislocation, or trauma. Click here to learn more about treatment and surgeries for shoulder instability.

PROXIMAL HUMERUS FRACTURE

Proximal humerus fractures are the third most common fragility fracture in the elderly population. Click here to learn more about treatment and options for these fractures.

ELBOW FRACTURE

Elbow fractures are some of the most difficult fractures to treat, from the complexity of the anatomy to the post-operative stiffness that can significantly impact a patient's function. Click here to learn more about elbow fractures and their treatment.

ELBOW INSTABILITY/DISLOCATION

The ulnar collateral ligament and radial collateral ligament stabilize the elbow. These can be injured as a result of sports or acute trauma. Find out more information about these fractures and their treatment here.
